Migrating Web Apps to ArcGIS Instant Apps
Wednesday September 25, 2024 8:30am - 9:00am PDT
With the retirement of the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript 3.0 and certain app builders like ArcGIS Configurable Apps and ArcGIS Web AppBuilder, there is a growing need for a simple and efficient way to migrate existing apps. This is where ArcGIS Instant Apps comes in.

ArcGIS Instant Apps is a powerful solution that quickly transforms your maps into focused, interactive web apps using purpose-driven templates. It leverages easy-to-use, built-in tools to showcase both 2D and 3D data, display a gallery of content, and deliver local public information.Built on Esri's latest web mapping technology, the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript 4.0, ArcGIS Instant Apps offers optimized performance and an extensive suite of capabilities. These include mobile responsiveness, smart mapping styles, accessibility improvements, and a wide variety of focus-driven templates that can be quickly deployed.

In this presentation, we will explore how ArcGIS Instant Apps can be a viable option for updating apps that are set to retire at the end of 2025. We will discuss the benefits of using Instant Apps, demonstrate its capabilities, and provide step-by-step guidance on how to migrate existing apps seamlessly. By adopting ArcGIS Instant Apps, organizations can ensure a smooth transition for their apps while taking advantage of the latest web mapping technology and a rich set of features.

The Kitchen Sink: Balancing function and form in the transition from Web App Builder to Experience Builder
Wednesday September 25, 2024 9:00am - 9:30am PDT
Well, it finally happened. ESRI has retired JavaScript 3.X API, and with it goes a whole suite of highly successful tools and applications. JavaScript 4.X is nothing new, but how does it stack up? Can you replace your Web Appbuilder apps? Dashboards? Do your old services and maps play nice with this new environment?

Web Accessibility and the new MetroMap
Wednesday September 25, 2024 9:30am - 10:00am PDT
Due to a recent Department of Justice (DOJ) ruling on web accessibility, most public-facing government web sites and content will have to be compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA standards by April 24, 2026. This technical specification includes rules regarding alt text, contrast levels, tab focus order, use of headers, captions for video/audio content, and much more. After the deadline, non-compliant governments will be liable to lawsuits for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Over the last year, Metro’s Data Resource Center has rebuilt its flagship GIS application, MetroMap, because the old version was dependent on deprecated technology. Even before we learned of the DOJ ruling, a key goal of this process was to make the website accessible to everyone, including those with vision challenges. This can be a big lift, so I’d like to share our lessons learned in hopes of helping other government GIS practitioners as they take on this work. I’ll also give a brief demo of the new MetroMap, highlighting its accessibility features.

Tracking Decals with ArcGIS Online Tools
Wednesday September 25, 2024 10:30am - 11:00am PDT
"In 2020, Metro Council updated the multifamily regional service standard for garbage and recycling, introducing several changes aimed at making the system work better. One of these initiatives aimed to create more consistent and easier-to-understand signage in collection areas of apartments and condos across the region. But creating standard signs and decals to show what goes in which bin was just the start. One Metro team was tasked with making sure these decals and signs made it to the 6000+ apartments and condos throughout the region before December 2023.

To help with this undertaking, the Data Resource Center deployed a suite of ArcGIS Online applications, including Survey123, Dashboards, and Web App Builder, to support the project team. This presentation will cover how these technologies were implemented to serve the needs of a variety of different users, some of the challenges the team ran into, and how the workflow can be implemented in similar projects."

Survey123 and Reporting Workflows: Stream Evaluation, Fish Exclusion and Culvert Assessment Fieldwork
Wednesday September 25, 2024 11:00am - 11:30am PDT
HNTB’s Northwest GIS Team created custom Survey123 Field Forms to assess streams with regard to current site conditions, how best to divert the stream and exclude fish, and use Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Site Description Field forms. With Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) evaluated current stream, culvert and surrounding environment regarding fish exclusion and stream diversion for culvert replacement projects. Using Survey 123, standardized observations for WSDOT and for forms submitted to WDWF, and prepared template formats for standardized report exports. These forms provide a single-source to survey data, print standardized forms, and the web-first approach ensures the use of consistent results and formatted reports. This presentation describes the use of this workflow for ease of data review and how to use online-forms for web-first data analysis and reporting.

Happy Citizens and Empowered Agencies Using GIS Permitting Technology
Wednesday September 25, 2024 1:30pm - 2:00pm PDT
For public agencies, applying for permits, licensing and rights-of-way often results in long lines, overloaded phone systems and frustrated citizens. Incomplete application data causes repeated follow-ups, and chasing information. Agencies can make better decisions, streamline payments, and make the overall process easier for their citizens. In this session, you’ll learn how Trimble Unity Permit, powered by Cityworks PLL, leverages GIS and accelerates better community development, land use, and public infrastructure.

Making a Point: Hosted Feature Services, GPS, and You
Wednesday September 25, 2024 3:30pm - 4:00pm PDT
Hosted feature services in an enterprise GIS environment can be a simple, highly configurable way to offer GPS data collection to non-GIS users. In this forum presentation I'll talk about how I set up services, how the City accesses them, and how we use the collected data. Ideally, we all learn something (me included!) during this informal and conversational colloquy.
